Dawn French gives a glimpse at her stunning Cornwall home

Dawn French gave a glimpse at her stunning seaside home with grand interiors on Wednesday.

The Vicar of Dibley actress, 65, paid nearly £2m for the property on the Devon and Cornwall border.

It came after she sold her beloved Fowey home for £6.6 million in 2021 – triple what she bought it for in 2006.

Taking to Instagram she showed off her new writing room with huge windows, a grand desk, chandelier and pink walls.

It also boasted dark wood furniture, a huge cream rug and pink sofa as well as incredible views over the countryside.

Dawn spent 15 years raving about her idyllic life in a harbourside home in the Cornish port of Fowey.

But after deciding the town had become ‘too cool and trendy’ Dawn French decided it was time to sell in 2021.

Her new home is a stunning Victorian villa in a quiet and secluded village elsewhere in Cornwall.

The comedienne and her husband, Mark Bignell, 58, made the decision to relocate to the Cornwall and Devon border, with waterside views.

With its narrow thoroughfares, boutique style shops and characterful pubs, the village is reminiscent of her beloved Fowey.

But crucially the spot remains off the beaten tourist track, enabling Miss French to avoid the crowds that swamp Fowey in the summer months.

The star and her husband snapped up a secluded five-bedroom house in the village, offering plenty of peace and privacy.

The house, set in three acres, retains many of its original period features including a stained glass window and tiled floors.

As well as the main house, the property has an annexe with its own bedroom, kitchen, living room and shower room, which was used by the previous owners as an Airbnb let.

There is also a separate coach house with two bedrooms, a bathroom, a living room and a kitchen as well as its own garden and parking space.

The sprawling grounds include a Victorian glass house, potting shed, two paddocks and a fruit and vegetable allotment.

Miss French married therapist Mr Bignell in 2013, three years after she split from Lenny Henry, 62, following 25 years of marriage.

Dawn earned a mouth-watering profit after selling her stunning Cornwall mansion to one of Britain’s leading biotech businessmen for £6.6 million – triple what she bought it for in 2006.

Dawn purchased the property for £2.3 million but in 2021 walked away with a hefty £4.3 million profit.

While it was reported previously that Dawn had sold the historic three-storey Point Neptune House which overlooks the harbour in Fowey, Cornwall, because the area was becoming ‘too cool and trendy’, details of the price and buyer had not been disclosed.

Land Registry documents later revealed the hefty sale price, and that the new owner was Professor Sir Christopher Evans OBE, who is worth an estimated £208 million and made his fortune through setting up and running a number of life sciences companies. He was knighted in 2001.

The star moved into the Grade-II listed building in 2006 with her then-husband Sir Lenny and their daughter Billie.

The couple divorced in 2010.

In 2013, she married therapist Mark Bignell in the coastal resort of Mawgan Porth but she continued to live in the home with her new husband and Billie.

Point Neptune House boasted huge, arched windows and stunning sea views.

The property was widely considered one of the most desirable houses in the town, but it is clearly visible to the growing hordes of tourists that visit, which also put Dawn off from living there.

After reports emerged that she was planning to sell Point Neptune House, a source revealed: ‘Yes, Dawn is selling up, but she’s very much staying in Cornwall. She just wanted a change.

‘Dawn is low-profile. The fact that Fowey has recently become cool and trendy isn’t what she finds appealing per se.

‘It can get very busy now during summer. Dawn will always love Fowey and had 15 wonderful years living there.

‘She will miss all the locals who made her feel so welcome.’
