Dawson’s Creek is coming back to TV

Viewers were first introduced to the residents of Capeside, a fictional town in Massachusetts, back in 1998, when Dawson’s Creek aired for the first time.

The US series, laced with teenage hormones, quickly became cult viewing thanks to its good-looking cast and emotionally charged high school dramas.

Now, All4 is hoping viewers of a certain age and a whole new audience will enjoy spending time with Dawson Leery (James Van Der Beek) and his pals Joey (Katie Holmes), Jen (Michelle Williams) and Pacey (Joshua Jackson).

Cult-teen show Dawson’s Creek featured the first gay kiss to air on American TV, it covered losing your virginity, mental illness and death

After five years, Dawson’s Creek went off air in 2003 when the sixth and final season aired, but now it’s back on British television after All4 secured the exclusive rights to air the much-loved angst-filled show.

The programme, which defined a generation of teens, launched the career of Katie Holmes, who famously went on to marry Tom Cruise – and recently announced her relationship with fellow actor Jamie Foxx.

Oscar-nominated Michelle Williams, who has a daughter Matilda by the late Heath Ledger, has enjoyed a stellar acting career, with Joshua Jackson also carving out credible stage and screen performances.

James Van Der Beek played the titular character, film-geek Dawson Leery, who was in love with his best friend Joey Potter, played by Katie.

While Van Der Beek was arguably the most famous face among the actors when the show ended, he hasn’t quite managed to retain his fame in the years that have followed.

As the show makes its welcome return in November FEMAIL looks at where the cast are now….

Katie Holmes was 20 when she began playing the innocent girl-next-door Joey Potter, starring throughout the six series run and often involved in a love triangle between Dawson Leery and Pacey Witter.

With her film career not setting the world alight, Katie, now 38, then went on to marry A-list action star Tom Cruise and having daughter Suri before later divorcing him.

She is now publicly dating actor Jamie Foxx and is trying her hand at directing.

James Van Der Beek was 21 when he first appeared on screen as 17-year-old Dawson Leery, a teenager obsessed with films and Steven Spielberg and his neighbour from up the creek, Joey Potter (Katie Holmes).

Six seasons on, the pair engaged in a ‘will they won’t they’ scenario before the series finale jumped forward several years and gave fans the answer they were looking for.

James, now 40, starred in several teen movies following the end of Dawson’s Creek, before returning to TV in short-lived series Don’t Trust the B**** in Apt 23 and later CSI: Cyber and currently What Would Diplo Do.

He married his wife business consultant Kimberly Brook in 2010 and they share four children Olivia, Joshua, Emilia, and Annabel.

MICHELLE WILLIAMS (JEN LINDLEY)

Michelle Williams was just 18 when she began playing Jen Lindley. The actress has racked up a series of blockbusters including Brokeback Mountain and, most recently, Manchester by the Sea – Williams has been nominated for an Oscar four times

Michelle Williams was the youngest of the cast to join the show, 18 at the time Dawson’s Creek began playing Jen Lindley.

She’s spoken several times over the years about a Dawson’s Creek reunion show often citing that her character’s death from cancer in the final episodes would make things difficult.

Michelle, who is now 37, pursued a successful career in films and has been nominated for an Oscar four times for her roles in Brokeback Mountain – where she met the late Heath Ledger – Blue Valentine, My Week with Marilyn and Manchester by the Sea.

She went on to have a daughter Matilda, now 11, with Heath, and has remained best friends with her former Dawson’s Creek co-star Busy Phillips.

JOSHUA JACKSON (PACEY WITTER)

Joshua Jackson was 20 when he first began portraying often misunderstood bad boy Pacey Witter in the teen drama.

He fell out with his best friend Dawson when he pursued Joey and the pair ended up together in the flashforward series finale – and his love life spilled over in real life as he ended up dating Katie Holmes.

The actor, now 37, who made his name as a young child actor in the film series Mighty Ducks then followed a similar path to James Van Der Beek starring in several teen movies before returning to TV.

He made a welcome return to screens in the much-loved sci-fi drama Fringe before setting screens alight in thriller drama The Affair alongside Dominic West and  Ruth Wilson.

Josh, who has also had success on stage, was the other half of German actress Diane Kruger for ten years before they broke of their relationship and began dating Norman Reedus.

After the series ended in 2003, Busy secured bit parts in films before going on to star in Cougar Town alongside Courteney Cox.

She is married to screenwriter Marc Silverstein and they have two daughters together Birdie Leigh and Cricket Pearl.
