A day care worker has been charged after she allegedly burned five toddlers with a hot glue gun as another employee stood by laughing.

Lizandra Cosme, 32, is accused of burning three girls and two boys, all aged two, at the Children’s Learning Place in Chicago on December 1.

She was charged on Monday with five counts of aggravated battery to a child.

Another day care worker, Susana Gonzalez, 27, was also charged after she was accused of laughing as she watched the incident unfold.

She was charged with misdemeanor counts of causing the circumstances of endangering a child.

Prosecutors said in Cook County court that Cosme had brought the glue gun into work to use for a Christmas project, WLS reports.

The day care’s surveillance video captured Cosme using the glue gun on the hands and arms of the toddlers.

‘Each of the child victims winced and some whined at the hot glue gun application,’ the prosecutor said.

The mother of one of the children later called the day care to ask how her two-year-old had obtained the injuries.

The child’s mother, who is also an ER physician, demanded that the surveillance video be viewed to determine how the injuries occurred.

A day care spokeswoman says the Department of Children and Family Services was notified and both employees were fired.

The judge ordered Cosme to be held without bail on Monday. She is scheduled to return to court on December 26.
