Daylesford crash: Driver charged over collision that killed five after SUV ploughed into a pub beer garden

A driver has been charged over a crash that killed five members of two young families after an SUV ploughed through a packed pub beer garden. 

A 66-year-old man from Mount Macedon was charged following the deadly crash at Daylesford, north-west of Melbourne, on 5 November.

Young boy, Vihaan Bhatia, 11, was killed alongside his father Vivek, 38, and family friends Pratibha Sharma, 44, Jatin Chugh, 30, and Ms Sharma’s daughter Anvi, nine.

The 66-year-old, who is an insulin-dependent diabetic, will appear via video link at Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday. 

He returned a negative alcohol reading at the scene and was released by detectives after being interviewed.

The man’s lawyer, Martin Amad, confirmed at the time the horror incident was triggered by a medical episode.
