DC United 3-2 Toronto: Ted Ku-DiPietro snatches a dramatic late victory for Wayne Rooney’s men after Christian Benteke equalized in the 90th minute to send Audi Field wild

Wayne Rooney’s DC United began the Major League Soccer season with an incredible late fightback to snatch a 3-2 victory against Toronto.

DC scored two goals in eight minutes of stoppage time to come from behind and send Audi Field crazy when the team looked destined to start the new season with defeat.

United started the game well and they took the lead when offseason signing  Mateusz Klich from Leeds scored on his debut with a brilliant strike from long range.

But Federico Bernadeschi was the architect of a Toronto fightback.

He scored from the penalty spot in the second half before Mark-Anthony Kaye converted from close range after Bernadeschi’s superb free kick had been tipped onto the post in an equally excellent save by Tyler Miller.

It left Rooney’s team staring at an opening day defeat but star striker Benteke was still to have his say. In the 90th minute, he leapt above the Toronto defense to head home a hanging cross and spare DC from defeat.

And then, with 20 seconds left on the clock, Ted Ku-DiPietro collected to the ball in the penalty box and poked it high into the roof of the net.
