A photograph of a particularly nasty looking spider was posted to social media on Thursday. 

The frightening photo was posted to Reddit on Thursday, along with the caption ‘just another trip to the beach in Australia.’

The post attracted a number of comments, with many users believing the creepy crawly to be a Sydney funnel-web spider.

‘Sydney funnel web I think,’ said one person.

‘If it is, it’s one of the only spiders with venom has evolved to specifically kill primates.’

Sydney funnel-web spiders are typically a large bulky spider with females reaching over 35mm in body length and males around 25mm. 

They are one of the world’s deadliest spiders and are found from Newcastle to the north and Illawarra to the south.
