Deborah Knight reveals she’s been ‘caught off guard’ by negative responses to new Today show lineup

‘The level of scrutiny has been more than I expected’: Deborah Knight reveals she’s been ‘caught off guard’ by negative responses to new Today show line-up as ratings plummet

Deborah Knight and Georgie Gardner became the face of the post Karl Stefanovic Today show at the start of the year.

And Deborah has now admitted she was not prepared for scrutiny she has since encountered, as ratings continue to plummet for the struggling breakfast show.

The 46-year-old told the Herald Sun on Saturday: ‘The level of scrutiny on the show has been more than I expected and that has not eased up to be honest, so that has caught me off guard’.

Deb says that ‘behind the scenes’ the atmosphere is positive, and she is ‘happier’ at the show now than she was six months ago.

However, the TV host understands it’s the people at home that need to be won over.

‘If you completely change the line-up of hosts on a show then you have to give the audience time to get used to that,’ she told the publication.

However Deb added: ‘The level of scrutiny that the show is still attracting never ceases to amaze me.’

It comes after Deborah and Georgie defended the breakfast show and hit back at the scrutiny they have been under while speaking to Ben Fordham on 2GB.

While both TV hosts admitted that the morning show has suffered in the ratings, they claimed the viewership landscape has vastly changed.

An incensed Georgie said: ‘It’s disproportionate the amount of rubbish written about the show compared to the number of people watching.’

‘We just scratch of heads as to why it’s given the scrutiny it’s given’ Georgie concluded.

She went on to say that people now get their information from a variety of sources.

‘We know for a fact sadly that audience numbers have dropped. It’s more fractured now, there are so many more sources were people get their information,’ she said.

Today show ratings hit an all-time low in March, and was even beaten by ABC’s News Breakfast.
