Dejan Kulusevski has admitted he ‘wasn’t happy’ at Juventus but is now thriving at Tottenham under the most ‘motivated’ person he’s ever met in boss Antonio Conte.

The 22-year-old joined Spurs back in January on an 18-month loan deal and made a fast start at the club, scoring his first goal in just his third appearance during a huge 3-2 win away over Manchester City in February.

Since then, the Sweden international has become a fan favourite, having notched an impressive six goals and 11 assists in 29 games for the club.

But while he is currently enjoying life at Tottenham, the last few years haven’t been plain sailing for Kulusevski, who has admitted he was unsettled at Juventus.

He told Gazetta dello Sport: ‘I wasn’t happy at Juventus so joining Tottenham was a great choice for me. I’m so happy to work under Conte.

‘In Turin it didn’t work, beyond what I tried. Now I want to play football and work harder and better in the gym.’

Having arrived at the Allianz Stadium in 2020 for a fee of £36m, Kulusevski went on to make 74 appearances for the Bianconeri, netting nine goals and 10 assists during a two-year spell.

But he is already well on his way to surpassing that tally over the last eight months, thriving under the stewardship of animated Spurs boss, Conte.

‘Trust me,’ he said. ‘I’ve never seen anyone in my life motivated as Antonio Conte.

And it seems the winger has chanelled much of Conte’s desire to win into his own performances, featuring in all seven of Tottenham’s Premier League games this season, helping the side go unbeaten in 2022-23 so far.

He was also backed as a stand-out performer during Sweden’s 4-1 Nations League defeat by Serbia on Saturday, teeing up Viktor Claesson for their opening goal, with Swedish football outlet, Fotbollskanalen rating him as ‘world class’.

Considering the amount of game-time he has had for Spurs, it is clear he is a favourite of Conte’s and it is likely they will look to make his loan move permanent in the New Year.

He could be available to Spurs for between £25-£30m, with his loan deal set to expire in June 2023.
