Del Posto named America’s best Italian restaurant in NYC

A New York eatery located in the Meatpacking district of Manhattan was named the best Italian restaurant in America.  

Del Posto, which translates to local in Italian, holds the title in the top 50 list on The Daily Meal, beating rival joints from Philadelphia and San Francisco.

Del Posto’s five-course dinner meal costs $149 (per guest) with each person having their choice of antipasto, secondo and dolce and two pastas to share according to their menu.

And the $49 three-course lunch meal includes a choice of antipasto, secondo and dolce with the option to enjoy an additional taste of pasta for the table at $10 per person. 

The restaurant also has an eight-course vegan dinner option for $179. 

The Manhattan restaurant is headed by chef Mario Batali, restaurateur Joe Bastianich and his mother, chef and cookbook author, Lidia Bastianich, general manager Jeff Katz.

Executive chef Melissa Rodriguez who graduated from the Culinary Institute of America, where she earned a degree in Culinary Arts.

It was given a four-star review by the New York Times the same year it opened in 2010 making it the the first Italian restaurant to do so in nearly four decades. 

Since then, the restaurant has gained and lost signature dishes such as the once famous 100-layer lasagna.

Their goal is making sure that the restaurant is ‘the ultimate expression of what an Italian restaurant should be’ which is carried out through their ‘sustainability’ practice. 

This practice aims at only using locally sourced food and working with the director of environmental health to make the restaurant as environmentally conscious possible, according to their website. 

With foods such the smoked halibut and vanilla licorice flavored panna cotta the restaurant has received great reviews from New York Magazine and The New York Times twice-over making it one of the most appetizing restaurants in America and New York. 

Other New York restaurants that made the list of America’s 50 best Italian restaurants include Babbo, Carbone and Marea all in Manhattan.
