Delta Goodrem has revealed there is one celebrity she tries to avoid being around because she becomes so starstruck she ’embarrasses’ herself.
The Australian pop star, 39, who got engaged last year to her long-time partner Matthew Copley, said she struggles to speak with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.
Appearing on the ABC series The Assembly with Leigh Sales, the singer-songwriter opened up about her ‘awkward’ encounters with the 47-year-old Englishman.
‘Let me tell you some of my embarrassing stories,’ the hitmaker said when asked if she’d ever become starstruck by another celebrity.
‘You’ve heard of Coldplay? For some reason, Chris Martin unhinges me, with my ability to speak.’
Delta revealed she ‘got really awkward’ the few times she had spoken with the rocker and often made a fool of herself in front of him.
One night as she had dinner with music legend Olivia Newton-John in Los Angeles, Delta said she went so far as to avoid Chris so she wouldn’t embarrass herself.
When she noticed Chris enter the same restaurant she was in at the time, Delta recalled: ‘I was like, “Oh no. Please don’t notice that we’re here.”‘

Unfortunately for the award-winning musician, Chris noticed she was avoiding him and confronted her in the parking lot of the venue.
‘He goes, “Delta, why didn’t you say hi?” and in my head I was thinking, “Because I embarrass myself every single time!”‘ Delta explained.
‘I’ve said really weird things to him. Every time.’

The confession comes after Delta revealed that her wedding plans with fiancé Matthew, 37, have taken a back seat due to her hectic schedule.
She told WHO magazine on Sunday that she has been so caught up in her bustling life that the couple have yet to sit down and plan their big day.
‘Don’t ask about the wedding. Things have been very busy, but a great kind of busy—the kind where I’ve never been happier,’ she said.
Delta and Matthew, who have been dating since 2017, got engaged during a romantic getaway to Malta last September.
