Demi Lovato recalled sliding into Schitt’s Creek actress Emily Hampshire’s Instagram DMs on a new episode of their 4D with Demi Lovato podcast.
The 29-year-old singer, who is non-binary and has changed their pronouns to they/them, went on to admit they may have put their foot in their mouth when suggesting they could be the next ‘Holland Taylor and Sarah Paulson.’
While the duo decided they were better off as just friends, Hampshire, 40, asked if it was okay to reveal how they met because she thinks ‘it’s really funny.’

After getting approval from her pal, the Canadian star told listeners that Lovato ‘slid’ into her DMs with a message that read: ‘Hey, I like you on the show. We should kick it sometime. And then you said, below it, you said, ‘And by kick it, I mean like go on a date. I find you attractive.’
‘You made it clear it was a date. And I loved that because I was like, sometimes that’s confusing. A.) I’m decades older than you, so ‘kick it,’ I was looking it up,’ Hampshire said, after noting she liked Lovato’s clarity.
When Hampshire expressed concerns that they wouldn’t find the same things funny due to their 11-year age gap, Lovato pointed to Taylor and Paulson’s relationship.

Immediately Lovato began to backpedal in fear they may have offended Hampshire by comparing her to the Emmy-winning actress, who is 78.
‘I thought it was the funniest thing in the whole world because I was a Holland Taylor in that situation. Proud to be,’ Hampshire added.
As they laughed about their initial chat, Lovato called Paulson and Taylor’s something that ‘a non-binary person can dream’ aspires for.

After shooting her shot, Lovato said she’s glad to have made a ‘really good friend’ in Hampshire, who agreed.
‘This is so great. I’m so glad you brought that up, it’s so funny,’ said Lovato. ‘Also, not my smoothest move, being like Holland Taylor, Sarah Paulson.’
Hampshire, however, clarified she is ‘obsessed’ with the the American Horror Story actress, 46, and Taylor, who have a 32-year age gap.

Lovato, who said they are as ‘single as a Pringle’ on their podcast, listed the traits they found attractive about Hampshire.
‘You are an attractive woman who knows her s**t. You’re not afraid to be yourself and I think that’s what I was like, that’s f***ing dope,’ they gushed.
Hampshire, who is also single, confessed she went through a ‘really difficult breakup’ and after ‘lots of expensive therapy’ is scared about entering a new relationship.
Most recently, Hampshire was linked to ex-fiancée Teddy Geiger, who she called it quits from in June.

Previously, she was married to soccer player Matthew Smith from 2006 to January 2015.
In response, Lovato, who broke off their engagement to Max Ehrich after a whirlwind pandemic romance, joked they enjoyed having solo ‘Grey’s Anatomy marathons.’
‘I don’t wanna ever sacrifice who I am for the expense of being in another relationship with someone else,’ Lovato noted. ‘We’re single because we haven’t settled for anything less than what we deserve.’
