Dems in meltdown after Trump makes Kari Lake new VOA director as they label her ‘international propaganda minister’

Democrats are in a meltdown over president-elect Donald Trump’s appointment of Kari Lake as the new director of the Voice of America broadcaster.

Lake, a former TV anchor-turned-politico, was announced as the incoming Voice of America (VOA) director by Trump on Wednesday evening.

‘I am pleased to announce that Kari Lake will serve as our next Director of the Voice of America,’ the Republican posted on Truth Social.

‘She will be appointed by, and work closely with, our next head of the U.S. Agency for Global Media, who I will announce soon, to ensure that the American values of Freedom and Liberty are broadcast around the World fairly and accurately, unlike the lies spread by the Fake News Media.’

‘Kari was a beloved News Anchor in Arizona, which supported me by record margins, for over 20 years. Congratulations Kari!’

Though MAGA-land was thrilled upon hearing the news, Democrats were less than happy.

A BlueSky account run by the Get More Smarter podcast, a show about Colorado politics hosted by Democrat operatives Jason Bane and Ian Silverii, wrote: ‘He’s really gonna make Kari Lake chief international propaganda minister holy s***.’

David Schwartz, a former executive committee member of the Brooklyn Democratic party, said in a BlueSky post: ‘Putting Kari Lake in charge to monitor fake news is like putting a cat to watch over mice.’

She added: ‘ I used to work at the Washington Post with Michael Abramowitz [the current director of VOA] and I am not entirely sure he can be removed like this.’

‘Voice of America is a vital international media outlet dedicated to advancing the interests of the United States by engaging directly with people across the globe and promoting democracy and truth.

‘With an audience of 326 million people, Voice of America delivers information in 48 languages. Under my leadership, the VOA will excel in its mission: chronicling America’s achievements worldwide.

‘Thank you for putting your trust in me, President Trump. I look forward to leading the Voice of America, and I can’t wait to get started.’

Lake’s appointment to director of VOA will force Lake to move to Washington, D.C. to oversee the agency’s daily operations.

The VOA has just about 1,000 employees and its 2023 budget was around $267 million dollars.

According to the VOA site, the agency can reach over 300 million people across all platforms.

The VOA is part of the U.S. Agency for Global Media.
