  • Denis Zakaria is in the final year of his contract with Borussia Monchengladbach
  • Matthias Ginter has also been linked with a move away from Borussia-Park
  • Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona are reportedly interested in Ginter
  • Arsenal may miss out on Zakaria due to not having European football this season

Denis Zakaria has received ‘a lot of offers’ to move on from Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach according to the club’s sporting director Max Eberl, amid reported interest from Manchester City and Arsenal.

Additionally Gladbach are also hopeful Germany midfielder Matthias Ginter will stay at Borussia-Park this summer, despite rumours suggesting he could leave with Real Madrid and Barcelona reportedly interested.

‘There are a lot of offers [for Zakaria], so we’ll have to wait and see what happens in the next few days and weeks,’ Eberl confirmed at a press conference ahead of the Gladbach’s DFB-Pokal game against Kaiserslautern.

Eberl also confirmed the club were in negotiations with Ginter: ‘We are in talks with him. We are interested in keeping him.’

However, he offered no guarantees that the Germany defender will stay at Borussia-Park adding: ‘Whether it works out remains to be seen.’

After a disappointing season in the Bundesliga that saw Gladbach finish outside of European qualification, both players impressed for their countries during Euro 2020.

Ginter was one Germany better performers in an underwhelming tournament for Joachim Low’s side, as they reached the last-16 before losing to England.

Whilst Zakaria impressed for the Swiss, however he scored an unfortunate own goal as they lost in the quarter-finals to Spain on penalties.

Their displays during the Euros caught the eye of some of Europe’s leading clubs and with just a year left on their contracts, Gladbach may sell this summer to avoid both players leaving for free in a year’s time.

Manchester City and Arsenal have been credited with interest in Zakaria, although Arsenal’s lack of continental competition could count against them.
