Dennis Quaid insists he doesn’t ‘regret anything’ about marriage to Meg Ryan – despite both having affairs

Dennis Quaid opened up about the end of his marriage to Meg Ryan, 62.

During an appearance on Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace on Friday, the Rookie star, 70,  said he has no regrets over his 10-year marriage to the Sleepless in Seattle star – who was recently honored at the Sarajevo film festival.

While both parties had torrid affairs during their relationship, the A Dog’s Purpose star also admitted Meg’s fame played a part in the breakdown of their marriage.

‘When I met Meg, I was here as far as career thing and she was here and then it just went like that,’ Quaid said, indicating how Meg’s stardom surged and surpassed his during their marriage.

He continued: ‘I tried to be a big person and tell myself that didn’t bother me, but people are human.’

The couple started dating in 1987, shortly after Meg appeared in Top Gun and her star started to rise.

By the time he went to rehab in the 1990s, she was unstoppable with hits including When Harry Met Sally and Sleepless in Seattle.

He claims her success, ultimately, drove a wedge between them.

‘Meg is really such a great, sweet person and really talented and deserved all her success,’ he gushed about his ex-wife.

‘I don’t regret anything about my marriage to Meg,’ he added. ‘We got Jack Quaid out of it who is really going on to maybe eclipse both of us.’

Dennis faced allegations of infidelity in their marriage and Meg carried on an affair with Russell Crowe.

Still, from Meg’s point of view, the affair with Crowe was a symptom of her ‘unhealthy marriage’ and not the cause of its demise.

‘I was very sad that it came apart in the way it seemed to have. It was never about another man,’ she told Oprah Winfrey in 2006. ‘It was just about what my and Dennis’ relationship couldn’t sustain.’

‘I think once the tabloids get a hold of three celebrity names you’re just really in trouble … I didn’t leave my marriage for Russell Crowe,’ she added. ‘I left my marriage.’

During an interview with In Style, per Lainey Gossip, the You’ve Got Mail star said, ‘Dennis was not faithful to me for a long time, and that was very painful. I found out more about that once I was divorced.’

Meg never remarried, but she was in a decade long relationship with rocker John Mellencamp that ended in 2019.

Quaid went on to married Kimberly Buffington (now Quaid) in 2004 when she was 31. They divorced in 2018.

In 2000, he married Laura Savoie who was 26 at the time and a PhD student at the University of Texas.
