Departing Broncos half Tyson Gamble says Adam Reynolds is team’s mastermind – NOT Kevin Walters

Departing Broncos half Tyson Gamble says Adam Reynolds is Brisbane’s mastermind and ‘go-to man’ – NOT coach Kevin Walters: ‘If you’ve got a question, you go to him’

  • Broncos five-eighth Tyson Gamble, 26, had a public dig at coach Kevin Walters
  • Declared in a recent podcast halfback Adam Reynolds runs the show at Red Hill
  • Gamble will be at Knights in 2023, comments went down like a ‘lead balloon’

Departing Broncos playmaker Tyson Gamble has fired a shot at coach Kevin Walters, declaring halfback Adam Reynolds is the ‘go-to-man’ at the club.

Gamble, 26, is leaving Red Hill at the end of the season to join the Knights, and his blunt assessment of Walters’ influence has reportedly ‘gone down like a lead balloon’.

Speaking on the Marshie’s Corner podcast, Gamble revealed Reynolds is the true ‘mastermind’ of Brisbane’s attack and who players lean on for advice.

Gamble pointed out club legend Walters was enthusiastic, but intimated Reynolds is the man who runs the show in Brisbane.

‘Kev’s the coach but Reyno is the go-to man for everybody. If you’ve got a question about the team or footy, you go to him,’ Gamble said.

‘It’s not a knock on Kev, but “Reyno” has been around for so long.

‘Kevvie really understands footy and he’s a good bloke in getting the team up and about, but the modern day is so different to the way Kevvie played footy.

‘There are some similarities with how you have to be with attitude and stuff, but Reyno is the mastermind around our attack at the moment.’

Club insiders were not happy with the podcast comments, according to the Daily Telegraph’s David Riccio.

‘They’ve gone down like a lead balloon,’ he said on Triple M.

Walters took over at Red Hill in 2021, and while some signs this season have been encouraging, a likely 9th place finish this year is unacceptable in the eyes of many

‘This is the final round of the season for them if they can’t secure a finals berth and one of their key playmakers is making comments that it isn’t Kevin Walters who is the mastermind.

‘They are stunning comments to make and its gone down like a lead balloon.’

Gamble has featured in just eight NRL games this season – but Walters has picked him ahead of young gun Ezra Mam for Saturday’s vital clash versus the Dragons on Saturday.

Brisbane must win comfortably and hope likely wooden spooners Wests Tigers do them a monumental favour and thump Canberra on Sunday at Leichhardt Oval to finish in the top eight.

Walters’ men have fallen off a cliff in recent weeks, given they were nestled in the top four back in round 19.

The last two rounds they have been hammered 60-12 by the Storm and 53-6 by the Eels – both on home soil at Suncorp Stadium.
