Deputies shoot dead a six-year-old at Texas trailer park

A GoFundMe has been established for the six-year-old who died on Thursday when he was shot in the abdomen by a stray bullet from Texas sheriff’s deputies.

Kameron Prescott, six, was shot by Bexar County deputies who had opened fire on a woman who was trying to break into a home at a San Antonio trailer park.

Kameron’s alleged aunt, Mercedes Warneke, created the page which has gained 2.965 of its $10,000 goal.

The boy had been inside when the shooting started and one bullet penetrated his abdomen, fatally wounding him.

It is not clear why the deputies started firing as no weapon was found on her by officers at Pecan Grove Manufactured Home Community near Cibolo Creek in Texas.

Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar says the woman has no apparent connection to the child or his family.

Deputies said the woman pointed a firearm at them during an earlier confrontation.

Salazar says no gun was later found on her, and that it wasn’t clear what prompted the deputies to shoot.

Authorities say she was a wanted felon and car-theft suspect, according to the San Antonio Express-News.

The child died at a hospital.

He had been in the trailer with his parents when the deputies started shooting outside.

The officers had been tracking the woman for nearly two hours when they finally cornered her on the porch of the boy’s home.

A deputy had confronted her earlier in the day over reports of a stolen car received at 10.48am.

Officers found her hiding in a closet and she pointed a gun at them as she fled the scene.

The footchase ensued and in an attempt to lose the cops she even tried to swim across chin-deep waters in Cibolo Creek, forcing a K9 officer to ditch his body armor and pursue her all whilst carrying his dog.

After leading officers on a 90-minute chase through woodland, she was tracked to the trailer park, which is now a live crime scene.

Rhonda Campbell, 58, told San Antonio Express-News she was in her bed watching TV when the woman forced her front door open trying to find somewhere to hide.

Anthony Fritcher, 33, was closing the back door she barged through the front door demanding keys to a car parked outside.

The pair along with Mrs Campbell’s husband charged her, forcing the fugitive to run away around towards the seven-year-old boy’s trailer.

She tried to get neighbors to help her before trying to break into the home moments before being shot dead.

Police are still trying to locate the gun pointed at officers in the initial fracas and the woman’s identity has not yet been revealed.
