A Colorado sheriff’s deputy was fatally shot and three other law enforcement officers and a bystander were injured after a gunfight erupted over a stolen vehicle.

Micah Flick, 34, is survived by his wife and two children, who are 7-year-old twins. He died on the 11th anniversary of his service in the force.

He and other officers were investigating a stolen vehicle in Colorado Springs when they approached a suspect, struggled with him and gunfire began, authorities said.

The suspect, police said, was also killed.

The incident occurred near the intersection of North Murray Boulevard and Galley Road around 4pm, CBS News reports.

Television footage showed dozens of police vehicles at the scene Monday in a neighborhood of single-family homes, apartment buildings and retail stores.

The injured officers’ names were not immediately released. Officials said two are deputies with the sheriff’s office and the third is an officer with the Colorado Springs Police Department.

All the victims were hospitalized, CBS News reports.

A procession was held for the fallen officer this evening.

The sheriff’s office wrote in a tweet: ‘Our Brother Deputy Flick. End of Watch, February 5, 2018.’

In a statement, Colorado governor John Hickenlooper called Flick’s death a ‘senseless act of violence’ and asked Colorado residents to provide sympathy to his family and pray for the injured.

Hickenlooper, per CBS News, said: ‘We will once more come together to provide sympathy and strength for the deputy’s loved ones and pray for the recovery of those injured.’

He added: ‘However, we also must come together and say enough is enough. We want each officer, every deputy, to know we are grateful for their service.’

The governor also said the deaths of three law enforcement officers in the state over the past five weeks are having ‘a grave impact’.

Since December 31, two other Colorado sheriff’s deputies – Heath Gumm, 31, and Zackari Parrish, 29 – have died after being shot on duty.

Regarding Flick’s death, Sherriff Bill Elder said: ‘It is with profound sadness that I say that this afternoon, Deputy Micah Flick 34 years old, was shot in the line of duty and has died,’ per KKTV.

Elder added: ‘Deputy Flick was an outstanding member of my agency and he will be missed.’

‘With a heavy heart, I join all of Colorado in mourning the tragic death of El Paso County Deputy Sheriff Detective Micah Flick, Colorado Representative Doug Lamborn said in a statement.

‘I ask all of Colorado and the nation to join me in prayer for our law enforcement officers and their families.’

Colorado Springs is the second largest city in Colorado and is about 70 miles from Denver, the state’s capital and its largest city.
