Desperate search underway for man missing after a late night swim at a Gold Coast beach

Desperate search underway for a 26-year-old man who went missing while swimming on the Gold Coast overnight after his friend is pulled from the water when witnesses spotted them struggling in the surf

A desperate search is underway for a well known jockey who disappeared during a late night swim at a popular Gold Coast beach.   

Chris Caserta, 26, was swimming with a young female track rider at Surfers Paradise just after 10pm on Wednesday night when fellow beachgoers noticed the pair struggling in the surf.

The woman, 25, was rescued and dragged to shore by bystanders.  

Caserta hasn’t been since as Gold Coast Turf Club officials confirmed the missing swimmer’s identity.

‘He was at Surfers Paradise beach last night and went for a swim at 10pm with a trackwork rider, they pulled her out and they can’t find him,’ officials told News Corp.

‘The female track rider with him was rescued and was taken to hospital.’

A land, sea and air search commenced for the man, who entered the water near Tower 34 and was wearing only black shorts at the time.

The widespread search for the man continued at first light on Thursday morning.
