Dessert Masters star reveals the truth about ‘fake’ fire on the show when his chocolate dessert went up in flames leaving viewers claiming it was staged

Morgan Hipworth has slammed talk that the unexpected fire that engulfed his dessert last week on Dessert Masters was ‘faked’.

Speaking to Yahoo Lifestyle on Monday, he understood why viewers often question  such surprise moments.

‘I feel like as a viewer, you’re always a bit sceptical like, is the time real? And it very much is [real],’ he told the publication.

Morgan was forced into a tailspin after his mango lemon myrtle cheesecake with white chocolate petals went up in flames.

‘When my entire dish set on fire with like, 10 minutes to go, I remember looking up and I was kind of like to the producers, what do I do now?

‘I just remember being like, no one’s saying anything, no one’s helping me, s**t, I need to sort something out,’ he said.

Morgan said he was using freeze spray at the same time as cleaning his plate of chocolate with a hot knife.

He was using the flame from the stove to heat the knife, which is when disaster struck, as he sprayed too close to the open flame.

‘I was trying to do two things at once,’ he said.

Dessert Masters is becoming a hit for Ten, dominating the ratings last Tuesday, 451,000 people tuning in across all the major cities.

It was a welcome win for host Melissa Leong after she was replaced on MasterChef, and moved off the series.

The upcoming sixteenth season will see three new judges – series alum Poh Ling Yeow, Michelin-star chef Jean-Christophe Novelli and food critic Sofia Levin – join returning host Andy Allen.

A network spokesperson told the Australian Financial Review Leong’s exit was down to scheduling and she ‘remains a key member of the MasterChef family’.

‘Next year, MasterChef Australia and Dessert Masters will air back-to-back. Therefore each show needs its own distinct style and personality and its own unique hosting team,’ they added.
