Detectives have given a rare insight into their interrogations with murderers, after a chilling interview with wife killer Steven Fesus was released this week.
Steven Fesus was found guilty on Tuesday of the murder of his teenage wife Jodie whom he strangled following an argument in august 1997.
In police tapes, only released after he was convicted, Fesus can be seen laughing and joking with detectives appearing to have a complete disregard for the seriousness of the allegations he faced.

‘I had an affair with someone right, but my breath smelt of Kebab,’ he said through laughter.
In the police tapes dated January 4, 2001, Fesus goes on to discuss affairs he had, while attempting to build rapport with the detectives.
‘I have females, yes, don’t doubt me wrong,’ he said.
When a detective asked him point blank: ‘Was it you?’ Fesus laughed it off.
‘Nah mate, is it alright if I call you that? Dude?’ he said.

Speaking to A Current Affair on Thursday, Forensic psychiatrist Julian Parmegiani said killers were often accomplished liars.
‘They know how to modify the answers, manipulate the interviewer, how to provide plausible visual and auditory cues so they come across as very persuasive,’ he said.
‘It’s no good going in half cocked, they’re not going to throw their hands up and say yes I did it.’
He said everyone was different but it was killers who detailed murdering their victims without showing emotion that confronted them most.

In police tapes released, Stanford described to detectives in chilling details what he did to Ms Scott.
‘I did it at the high school, I beat her to death … with my fist. She stopped breathing and moving,’ he said.
He described how he placed her body into his Mazda 3 boot and dumped her in the national park.
Former New South Wales Police detective inspector Michael Gerondis said killers, like Stanford, relished the opportunity to share the details of their crime.
‘This is the first opportunity they can share with others something that gave them a great trill, so they go into so much detail because they relive the fantasy,’ he said.
‘It’s like keeping a souvenir like keeping photographs or clothing.’

Chilling footage was also released of Daniel Kelsall, who murdered Sydney businessman Morgan Huxley in 2013.
Kelsall freely discussed his knife collection with detectives, just two weeks after he stabbed Mr Huxley to death in the bedroom of his Neutral Bay apartment.
Kelsall told detectives he followed Mr Huxley, unintentionally, before smiling at him and going home.
‘I got out of my stuff and got into bed,’
Kelsall later told police he lied in the initial interview and in fact went home with Mr Huxley where they shared a consensual sexual encounter.
A jury found Kelsall guilty of stabbing Mr Huxley more than 20 times after indecently assaulting him.
