Detroit Lions are ‘signing former Chicago Bears running back David Montgomery’

Detroit Lions are ‘signing former Chicago Bears running back David Montgomery to a three-year, $18million deal ‘ with star rusher to remain in the NFC North

Former Bears rusher David Montgomery will become a member of the NFC North rival Detroit Lions, according to a report.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero broke the news or Montgomery’s imminent move to Motown late Tuesday night.

Multiple reports state Montgomery has agreed to a three-year, $18million deal with the Lions.

It is a strong addition for the resurgent Dan Campbell led franchise, with Montgomery one of the best available players at his position.

Montgomery will now face his former team, Chicago, twice in each of his three seasons with the Lions.

The Iowa State product struggled to run the ball vs. his new franchise, rushing for 37 yards from nine attempts in the Week 10 loss.

During his penultimate game as a Bear, Montgomery rushed for only 24 yards on six carries against the Lions in Week 17.

Through the 2022 season, he had 800 rushing yards from 201 attempts — an average of 3.99 per attempt.

The move, which will become official Wednesday afternoon, almost certainly means running back Jamaal Williams will be moving on from Detroit.

Williams set a franchise record for rushing touchdowns in a single season (17) during the 2022 campaign.
