Shattered Lions veteran Mitch Robinson has confirmed he has played his last game in the AFL following his side’s thumping at the hands of Geelong in Friday night’s preliminary final.

The midfielder, 33, took to Instagram post game – and didn’t mince his words when it came to coach Chris Fagan.

‘Devastated Fages wouldn’t allow me to announce this in person to the supporters and my team mates, but I guess that’s footy,’ he posted on Friday.

‘It’s been an absolute privilege pulling on the Fitzroy and Lions jumper!

‘Thank you all for the last eight years, I’ll never forget the love you all showed me, Emma and my kids.

‘I left it all out there every single game, I love you all.’

Robinson, 33, played 247 career games for Carlton and Brisbane after making his debut in 2009.

He moved to the Lions at the end of 2014 following a 100-game stint at the Blues.

The hard-nosed midfielder was the Lions’ joint best and fairest winner in his first season at the club in 2015.

In what turned out to be Robinson’s final game for Brisbane, minor premiers Geelong showcased their class in a thumping 71-point victory.

The Cats have won their last 15 games in a row and were utterly dominant.

They face the winner of Sydney and Collingwood in the grand final on September 24 at the MCG.

Young gun Max Holmes was in distress after limping off in the third quarter what appeared to be a hamstring injury.

He will be racing the clock to feature in the big dance, and was spotted thumping the turf in frustration as the realisation he may miss the biggest game of the season hit home.
