Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia’s super lightweight title fight is CONFIRMED for April 20th… as American boxers take to social media to reveal official date ahead of Las Vegas showdown

Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia’s WBC super lightweight title fight has officially been confirmed for April 20th, after months of speculation. 

On Friday, reports emerged that Haney will put his title on the line against Garcia in their first ever professional meeting, in a blockbuster bout in Las Vegas.

Shortly after the reports came to light, both fighters took to social media to seemingly confirm the official date for the bout. 

Garcia, who’s last performance saw him defeat Oscar Duarte back in December, posted a series of pictures onto X, formerly known as Twitter, to announce the bout. 

He wrote: ‘April 20th – Game 7 – Back In Blood’. One of the images brought to light the fact that Garcia and Haney have a 3-3 amateur record against one another – suggesting their meeting in two months will be ‘Game 7’.

Meanwhile, rival Haney wrote: ‘MashAllah settle this once & for all.. April 20th. #HaneyGarcia 32-0 InshaAllah’.

Reporter Michael Benson also confirmed the bout on social media and stated that it will take place in Las Vegas. 

Haney (31-0, 15 KO) will defend his WBC super lightweight title for the first time since dethroning Regis Prograis in December when he meets Garcia in the ring at the end of April.

Haney swept Prograis, 120-107, across all three scorecards, including a 10-8-round courtesy of a knockdown in the third. 

‘I went in here and I hit him with a sharp right hand,’ Haney said at the time. ‘I capitalized on his tendency of leaning in.’

Talks have been on and off since December but looked to have ended when Garcia tried to pursue a fight with Rolando Romero, before Romero instead decided to fight Isaac Cruz. 

An April showdown marks a significant moment in the careers of both fighters as they prepare to meet for the first time in a professional environment.

Meanwhile Garcia won via knockout in his last outing inside the ring against Oscar Duarte 

Haney and Garcia fought six times in the amateurs with both sharing three wins each before turning professional and embarking on title quests.

The meeting will bring to a conclusion bad blood between the pair after they previously clashed on social media at the start of January.

Haney boasts an undefeated record of 31 victories with 15 by way of knockout, but faces one of his toughest tests yet in Garcia.

Meanwhile, the challenger has only lost once in his professional career after being knocked out by Gervonta Davis last year.
