Die Hard’s Bruce Willis beats Indiana Jones to the top spot in the battle of the best movie action heroes
When it comes to the battle of the movie action men, it’s Bruce Willis who still comes out on top.
John McTiernan’s classic Die Hard, in which Willis plays detective John McClane, has been voted as the greatest action film of all time.
The 1988 movie topped the poll of 2,000 people, with 18 per cent of the vote – narrowly beating Steven Spielberg’s first film in the Indiana Jones franchise, Raiders Of The Lost Ark, into second place with 15 per cent.
Top Gun came third with 13 per cent with Terminator 2: Judgement Day and Gladiator rounding the top five on 12 per cent and 11 per cent, respectively.
Other films in the top ten include The Matrix, The Bourne Identity, John Wick, The Good, The Bad And The Ugly and Dirty Harry.

Jon Dixon, from Showcase Cinemas, which conducted the survey, said: ‘Action movies are a staple of the big screen, which has been reflected in our survey, with 62 per cent of respondents stating they are the most exciting genre to watch at the cinema.’
Last year, Willis, 68, stepped away from acting after being diagnosed with aphasia, a condition that can hinder the ability to talk.
In February, his family said he was living with frontotemporal dementia, which causes problems with behaviour and language.

But for Die Hard super-fan Terry Black, of Sunderland, Willis is still his ‘hero’ and he reckons he has seen the movie about 150 times.
He said: ‘I first saw Die Hard when it first came out and I guess I’ve watched it four or five times a year ever since.
‘There isn’t a word I don’t know in the movie and, for me, there is no better action movie ever made.’
