Diplo takes over Brooklyn hotel’s rooftop bar for second annual end-of-summer NYFW party

Diplo returned to one of Brooklyn’s most popular hotels over the weekend for another lively – and fashionable – end-of-summer celebration.

The DJ, 44, was once again the main attraction for a special party on Sunday closing out the summer – as well as a very star-studded New York Fashion Week – hosted at The William Vale’s two-floor rooftop bar Westlight in partnership with El Studio for a second year.

The swanky hotel, which boasts panoramic glittering views of the Manhattan skyline and East River, welcomed scores of guests onto its covered rooftop cocktail bar as well as its second-floor outdoor space.

Featuring lush palm trees for that late summer feel, Westlight’s open air green space The Turf Club was filled with fans who braved the wet weather for a night of beats and tunes by the musician. 

While Diplo – real name Thomas Wesley Pentz – was the night’s main event, he was joined by special guest DJs Layla Benitez, Deroos, Monobase and Tolga. 

With Westlight’s craft cocktails in hand, guests further dined on delicious bites by James Beard award-winning chef Andrew Carmellini’s NoHo Hospitality from the outdoor terrace, soaking up the last days of New York summer.

Diplo’s performance on the swanky 22nd floor rooftop bar comes a year after he took center stage at the hotel’s first NYFW summer closing event party.

This year’s event was also plagued by bouts of rainy weather which fortunately managed to let up and give way to a sunny but humid afternoon on the outdoor roof area, that had been closed off to guests last year due to storms.  

But both years have proven so far that dozens of revelers are intent on coming out to the event to dance the night away under the stars rain or shine.

The event was the continuation of a week of star-studded fashion events, runway shows and parties, celebrating the newest fashion collections by some of the industry’s biggest names. 

New York Fashion Week kicked off on Thursday, September 7 and will come to a close on Wednesday, September 13.

The bi-annual event gives ‘leading designers from around the world’ an ‘unrivaled global platform to showcase their collections.’

Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren, Helmu Lang and Prabal Gurung were among the luxury brands to debut their upcoming Spring/Summer 2024 lines this week.
