Disabled pensioner recalls terrifying moment two armed intruders ‘beat him with a metal pole’

A disabled pensioner has told of the horrifying moment two men forced their way into his home and savagely beat him with a metal pole.

Father-of-seven Kieth Edwards, 47, was asleep on the couch at his Davoren Park home in north Adelaide when the pair of thugs broke in at about 12:30am on Tuesday.

Mr Edwards recalled waking up to find the two men standing in his house – one of them holding a metal bar.

‘He was threatening to use it on me and talking about a motorbike that doesn’t exist,’ the pensioner told Nine News.

‘I tried to tell him there was nothing there and he just pretty well ran amok on me.’

Despite attempts to defend himself – with random objects such as the steps from his bed frame – Mr Edwards was overpowered and violently beaten.

One of his daughters claims the attackers smashed Mr Edwards’ guitar over his head and struck him with a cooking pot, as well as physically assaulting him with the pole, in an onslaught that left blood smeared across the walls of the house.

He was treated for major head and facial injuries before being discharged from Lyell McEwin Hospital on Tuesday morning.

Mr Edwards claimed his attackers made demands relating to a motorcycle that they thought to be located in his backyard.

‘I tried to tell that [I didn’t know anything about it] and they wouldn’t listen to me,’ he said, his face covered in bruises and bloody wounds.

Police have since attended the scene and retrieved evidence, including a metal pole that they believe was used as a weapon against Mr Edwards.

Officers currently believe the men are known to Mr Edwards, and are treating the incident as a targeted attack.
