  • Neighbor had to destroy illegal building, to the cost of estimated $100,000

A rude resident who was parking nine cars on their street had to pay a hefty price for their misdeeds after a petty neighbor sought revenge.

The poster, believed to be from the US, revealed on Reddit that they had grown increasingly disgruntled with their neighbors, who had nine cars and parked none on their driveway, preferring to line them up along the street and taking space from other residents.

Eager to punish the offender, they got their revenge by tipping off the local authority about illegal building on their property after noticing that the neighbor had built a second unit on their plot in record time.

They revealed that the tip off ended up costing the neighbor $100,000 after local authority demanded that they demolish the unit, which had been built without the necessary permit.

Readers on Reddit loved the story of petty revenge and suggested the author of the post should get the neighbor’s cars towed.

The disgruntled resident explained there was a regulation forbidding parking longer than 48h on the street.

‘My neighbors have 9 cars total parked in the street. They always park two of those cars in front on my house and won’t move them the whole week.

‘We have a regulation where we live that you can’t leave your car parked for more than 48 hrs in the same spot.’

They added that the issue could easily have been avoided, based on the fact said neighbor could fit four cars on their driveway.

‘They have told me they don’t like to leave their driveway with cars because it looks tacky,’ they revealed, adding the neighbors didn’t use most of the cars they parked on the street.

‘They just use them to safe parking spots for themselves.’

The repeated bad behavior motivated the disgruntled resident to seek revenge, and an occasion presented itself last year.

‘In 2021 I noticed they where building a second unit at the back of their main house. I noticed that they completed the house in under a month,’ they said.

‘This raised some red flags because it takes anywhere from 2-3 months with city inspections taking the majority of time.

The resident tipped off the city authorities that there might be some illegal residential building work being done without permit on their street.

‘I didn’t think of it much until a year later,’ they said, adding: ‘I noticed my neighbors tearing down their second unit last week.’

‘Word got around our block that a city inspector was there making sure everything was being torn down. Based on what they materials and labor they put into their second unit I cost them over $100,000,’ they revealed.

Readers on Reddit were delighted with this tale of petty revenge.

‘Wow who would spend that much $ and not get it permitted,’ one said.

And some said the disgruntled resident should have also tipped their local authority about their neighbor’s cars so that they would get towed.

‘If you have a 48 hour parking rule, have those cars towed,’ another wrote.

‘You need to give their cars some shade. Plant a couple of Mulberry trees as close to the curb as you are allowed. They grow fast and the berries make a real mess, not to mention the birds who stop to eat those berries,’ one said.
