A community fireworks event has descended into chaos after a brawl erupted amongst teenagers – with a 17-year-old injured.

Two teenage boys, aged 15 and 16, were arrested after officers responded to reports of a fight at a community event at Northbridge Oval in Sydney’s north, about 7.30pm on Saturday.

Local officers arrived at the scene and were told a 17-year-old boy had been assaulted, a NSW police spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia.

The two alleged teenage perpetrators were arrested following a foot pursuit.

A spokesperson said: ‘The older boy is alleged to have resisted arrest, assaulting officers.

‘The 17-year-old was treated for facial injuries and taken to Royal North Shore Hospital.’

Northbridge Rotary hosted the annual community fireworks event, which included rides, family entertainment and live music by local school bands.

A 28-year-old woman who attended the fireworks and witnessed the brawl told Daily Mail Australia the incident was ‘quite scary’.

She said the fight ‘came out of nowhere’, with the event descending into chaos when ‘hundreds of teenagers’ ran away from the scene after the police were called.

Officers instructed bus drivers heading into the city not to stop near the oval to prevent the incident from escalating.

Gates opened at 2.30pm and the brawl broke out after the scheduled fireworks at 7pm.

In footage captured by an onlooker and shared by Mosman Collective, a group of teenage boys can be seen fighting while several adult men and women tried to intervene.

A huge crowd of teenagers can be seen close by as adults attempted to disperse the group.

The two teens arrested were taken to Chatswood Police Station, where the 16-year-old was charged with several offences which included common assault and affray.

He was also charged with behaving in an offensive manner in or near a public place or school, armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, two counts of hindering or resisting a police officer in the execution of duty and assaulting a police officer during public disorder.

The older boy was granted conditional bail to appear at a children’s court on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.

Meanwhile, the younger boy was released pending further investigation.

Police have urged anyone with information to get in touch as investigations into the matter continue.
