Disturbing moment armed thieves fire shots and send customers running for cover during a robbery inside a government-owned bank in Brazil

  • At least seven men robbed a Caixa bank Thursday afternoon in Guariba, Brazil 
  • The group used two vehicles to seal off the surrounding streets
  • The government-operated bank said an unknown amount of cash was taken
  • A male client, 65, received medical attention after he was hit by broken glass 

This is the shocking moment a group of armed thieves opened fire and sent customers running for safety during a bank robbery in southeastern Brazil.   

At least seven men participated in Thursday’s afternoon heist at a Guariba, Sao Paulo, branch of the government-owned Caixa Savings Bank, the Civil Police reported.

The assailants barged into the bank approximately 3:30pm after it had already closed for the day and sealed off the street with two vehicles while two accomplices stood in opposite corners brandishing military rifles.

Surveillance video shows the moment five of the robbers announced the robbery as they sprayed the bank with bullets, which shattered several windows and the branch’s glass entrance door. 

Bank officials told the police that the thieves then made their way toward the bank’s vault and seized an unknown amount of cash before exiting as they continued to unload their guns.

Brazilian news outlet G1 reported that one of the cars they utilized was stolen Thursday morning.

A bystander recorded two suspects standing outside the bank and one of them firing into the air before jumping inside a black car and fleeing.

A 65-year-old male client injured his right knee after he was hit by the debris from the broken glass doors and windows.

City government officials said the man was treated at a local hospital and released. 

Authorities had not reported any arrests as of Friday afternoon.
