Diver records tussle between shark and turtle on Coral Bay

  • Incredible footage captures the moment a shark and turtle tussle underwater
  • Scuba diver Timothy van Beelen jumped from his boat to film the shark
  • After getting too close the tussle the shark turns it’s attention towards the diver

This is the jaw-dropping moment a scuba diver captures a tussle between a tiger shark and a turtle, off Coral Bay in Western Australia.

Scuba diver Timothy van Beelen jumped from his boat to film the shark underneath him before realising it was attempting to snare a fleeing turtle.

The apex predator is seen holding the turtle in its jaws before it manages to wriggle free, turning just out of the shark’s jaws.

After getting too close, the shark turns its attention to van Beelen, surging at the swimmer who tries to kick away quickly.

Despite the lunge, he said it was ‘simply a warning to get away from his food.’

While the shark charges the diver, it appears as if the turtle takes its chance and makes a getaway.

Meanwhile, a seal off the coast of South Africa wasn’t so lucky after getting swallowed whole by a great white shark.

Cage-divers filming beneath the water captured the moments before as the seal twisted and turned in the water inches away from the enormous predator.

Seemingly attracted to the bait on a pole the shark soon realised something far larger was on the menu as the playful seal swam alongside it.

Footage from above the water shows the seal suddenly flailing desperately though the water as the shark lunges towards it, in Gansbaai about two hours away from Cape Town.

Shadows across the surface show the underwater struggle taking place interrupted by sudden leaps through the air as the prey comes up for air.

But eventually the seal falls prey to the apex predator as a final twist through the water is intercepted by enormous jaws.

The helpless seal is almost swallowed whole as the power of the shark’s thrust sends it towards the fishing boat.
