DJ Black Coffee injured in ‘severe travel accident’ on flight to Argentina gig – with incident resulting in ‘unforeseen complications’ for star

DJ Black Coffee has been injured in a ‘severe travel accident’ on a flight to a scheduled show in Argentina.

The Grammy Award-winning South African musician, 47, was traveling to the city of Mar Del Plata when the incident occurred – which resulted in ‘unforeseen complications’ – a statement on his social media accounts on Wednesday read.

The post read: ‘Black Coffee was involved in a severe travel accident on a flight en-route to his scheduled show in Mar Del Plata

‘The incident resulted in unforeseen complications and left him with some injuries

‘We can confirm that he is receiving the best possible medical attention and surrounded by a supportive family and team.

‘Despite the challenges presented Black Coffee is optimistic and recovering well

It is not clear when the incident happened but the DJ – real name Nkosinathi Innocent Maphumulo – had been performing in Brazil in the first few days of 2024. 

His previous Instagram post on December 30 showed him reflecting on past year, writing: ‘2023 is a year I’ll never forget. Looking forward to the new year ahead.’

 Maphumulo married actress and television presenter Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa in 2011 and they divorced in 2020.

They have two children together and he has two more from a previous relationship.

In 2022 he won the Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Album for Subconsciously – beating Fallen Embers – Illenium, Music Is the Weapon (Reloaded) – Major Lazer, Shockwave – Marshmello, Free Love – Sylvan Esso and Judgement – Ten City.

His career began around 1994 and he has since released nine studio albums.
