A boy has been left traumatised after his beloved pet dog was bludgeoned to death with a cricket bat before his eyes.
The 12-year-old could only watch on with his siblings as their pit bull Karma was beaten by a stranger on Thursday at the front of their mother Vanessa De Alvia’s Canberra home.
Ms De Alvia said her son has been an emotional mess since witnessing the ‘totally unnecessary’ attack, the ABC reported.

‘He’s not doing well,’ she told the publication.
‘[Karma] had never been violent … she just want to cuddle all the time and slept with me every night.’
Ms De Alvia said the man turned up and started laying blow after blow into Karma after her two dogs escaped through her home’s front door.
The dogs escaped after her neighbour came around to see the family with her own pet pug.
But when Ms De Alvia’s son opened the door, the dogs escaped into the front garden and grabbed the pug.
Speaking to Daily Mail Australia, Ms De Alvia said: ‘It looks bad in the footage but they were just playing with it like a tug of war like she was a toy.
‘My neighbour, the lady, called for her partner to help her separate them as she had the baby.
‘Then the hero with a bat came and started swinging. We don’t know him, we have never seen him before.

The attack lasted for around 30 seconds until Karma was killed
‘My son tried to tell him to use water but he ignored it then hit my dog until she died.’
Neighbour Jenifer Hanson witnessed the incident, saying she begged for the man to stop but he refused, according to the ABC.
She added: ‘It felt like it went for about 12 minutes but it would have happened in a minute … It still doesn’t feel real.’
Police are assisting the ACT domestic animal services department with their investigation into the incident.
