‘We had a perfect love story’: DOI star Amy Tinkler’s ‘heartbroken’ ex blames show for their split as he says distance made their romance ‘unnatural’

Dancing On Ice star Amy Tinkler’s ‘heartbroken’ ex-boyfriend has blamed the show for their break-up last month.

Singer Max Cinnamon, 20, claimed distance brought by the gymnast’s strict schedule made their relationship ‘unnatural’, after splitting time between London and France.

On dating the Olympian, 20, who was partnered with skating pro Joe Johnson, the musician said: ‘Amy and I were this perfect love story at the start. I can’t say that I entirely blame Dancing on Ice… but it was a major factor.’

The former couple met in January last year when the artist was studying in London, and the sportswoman would regularly fly out to visit him in the South of France.

Insisting they crossed paths at the ‘right moment’, Max explained how they managed to find time for each other, but drifted when Amy kicked off rehearsals for the ITV programme and the nationwide coronavirus lockdowns were implemented.

The songwriter, who studies Music Production and Sound Engineering at the Abbey Road Institute, explained to The Sun: ‘But she joined Dancing On Ice just before Christmas and that’s what made it so difficult.

‘The rules were she was only allowed to bubble with her dance partner – and I wasn’t allowed into that. We didn’t want to break the rules but when you are not seeing each other… it becomes a weight and it doesn’t feel natural. I was heartbroken.’

Max admitted that FaceTime calls weren’t enough to save their one-year romance, and they called it quits just before Valentine’s Day.

The Eurovision star added that her professional relationship with Joe was ‘never an issue’, and insisted while they’re currently not on talking terms, he’s ‘happy’ the blonde is ‘really enjoying life’ following their break-up.

Amy became the fourth contestant to be eliminated from the series, which saw five stars withdraw from the show due to injuries and contracting coronavirus.

The athlete briefly addressed splitting from Max last month, stating: ‘I was voted out by the public, and that’s the way these shows go. But the reason we decided not to do Press was because it was Valentine’s Week… and I had just split from him’.

She also claimed they were at ‘different points’ in their lives and wanted ‘very different things’ from their relationship.

ITV’s representatives declined to comment when approached by MailOnline. MailOnline has contacted a spokesperson for Amy for further comment.

Amy’s split makes her the tenth celebrity to be hit by the alleged Dancing On Ice ‘curse’.

Much has been made of the Strictly curse, but the skate show has also seen its fair share of relationships crack under the pressure.

Romances affected include Love Island’s Maura Higgins and Curtis Pritchard, who broke up last year after rowing over her friendship and ‘closeness’ with her pro partner Alexander Demetriou.

Alexander, 28, subsequently who went on to split from his wife Carlotta Edwards over his closeness to Maura, 30.

Reality star Wes Nelson and Megan Barton Hanson called it quits shortly after she slammed his partner Vanessa Bauer for ‘orchestrating’ her own break-up with ex Louis Nathaniel in a bid to generate headlines ahead of their skating debut.
