  •  Robert Jennings squanders certain try
  •  Winger bizarrely falls short of tryline
  •  Players and fans left confused

Dolphins winger Robert Jennings has produced one of the most bizarre blunders in footy history during his side’s amazing comeback victory over the Titans.

Wayne Bennett’s side clawed back to beat the Gold Coast in an extraordinary 28-26 win at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday.

The Dolphins looked ordinary early in the match, going behind 26-0 after just 26 minutes  – before turning the tables on their opponents and running in five unanswered tries.

The comeback was almost spoiled by Jennings however, who squandered two prime scoring opportunities – the first of which was an all-time howler.

With the Dolphins trailing 26-18, Jennings lost his balance and bizarrely fell over metres short of the Titans tryline with no defenders near him.

Instead of getting up or crawling forward to score, Jennings waited to be tackled.

He then got up to play the ball, not realising it was a handover to the Titans.

Footy fans couldn’t comprehend what happened, and neither could the commentary team.

‘What’s happened? What happened to Jennings. That was the changeover!’ exclaimed commentator Warren Smith.

‘I’ve never seen the like of it. He stumbled then didn’t get up to continue running. Robert! I can’t imagine what he was thinking.’

‘That will be the most talked about play over the course of the weekend.

‘He can’t believe it. (Kodi) Nikorima is blowing up, his teammates are blowing up.’

Steve Roach said: ‘Why didn’t he get up and keep going there?’

Jennings was almost in again minutes later, but it was ruled he lost the ball over the line.

He made up for the mistakes however by scoring a brilliant one-hander in the corner and help his side towards a thrilling comeback.

Dolphins prop Jarrod Wallace said he was just as shocked as everybody else when Jennings failed to score.

‘I’ve got to go back and check. Did he fall asleep or what?’ Wallace said.

‘I said what’s going on? He said ‘I thought it was double movement’. There was no one within 20 metres of you, you can get up and keep running.

‘He iced it with that last one when we needed him to and that was all that mattered.’

‘I’ve never seen anything like that,’ Bromwich said.
