Donald Trump pays surprise tribute to NFL player on Bussin’ With The Boys podcast: ‘What a great story’

Former President Donald Trump gave a shoutout to a surprise NFL player during his appearance on the Bussin’ With the Boys podcast on Monday.

Trump has long been a fan of football despite his adversarial relationship with the NFL and his failed attempts to buy a few of the league’s franchises.

The Republican nominee for President for the third straight time was not on the show to talk sports but has had no hesitation giving his opinions on basically anything.

As Trump walked to his seat to talk with former NFL players Will Compton and Taylor Lewan, with the interview being recorded on Thursday night during 49ers-Seahawks, San Francisco led 13-0.

Trump immediately jumped into several compliments for Brock Purdy.

Donald Trump spoke highly of 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy during an interview last week

‘The quarterback is a great story,’ Trump said on Purdy. ‘He’s like the last drafted and they put him in and he’s just moved the team. He’s really good, you never know.’

‘You take the best player that anyone’s ever seen out of college and he turns out to be not soo good. The San Francisco quarterback I have found to be very interesting, how he’s been so good and just about the last draft pick.’

‘Mr. Irrelevant. He’s not irrelevant any more.’

Trump remembered correctly that Purdy was the last pick, 262nd overall, in the 2022 NFL Draft. Purdy also did not immediately start for the 49ers with Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo ahead of him on the depth chart.

Trump compared Purdy to Tom Brady as a late-round NFL Draft pick that has found success in the league.

Purdy eventually got his opportunity through injuries to both Garoppolo and Lance and has not relinquished the starting job since.
