Donald Trump’s Turnberry Scottish golf course swings into profit – but another remains in the red

One of Donald Trump’s luxury golf courses in Scotland has finally made a profit – but another remains firmly in the red. 

Trump Turnberry in Ayrshire, which boasts three courses and a hotel, has been loss-making since the former US president bought it for close to £50million in 2014. 

But accounts filed at Companies House show it finally made a profit of £517,000 in 2022 following a loss of £3.7million the previous year. 

There was no such turnaround in fortunes at Trump International Golf Club Scotland, which owns a resort near Aberdeen, however. 

It lost another £738,000 in 2022, which followed losses of almost £697,000 in 2021. 

The latest loss came ten years after the course opened following years of wrangling with locals, politicians and environmentalists. 

Revenues at the course jumped nearly 75 per cent to £3.6million as golfers returned following the pandemic, boosting green fees as well as sales at the resort’s hotel. 

But mounting costs sent it into the red. Trump’s sons Donald Jr and Eric are listed as the sole directors of both companies.
