A donkey has been jailed by Mexican police after it escaped from its owner and wrecked local properties. 

The asinine convict escaped from its owner in Comitan de Dominguez in the southern Mexican state of Chiapas.    

Reports said the donkey caused damage to several properties and was immediately arrested and thrown in a police cell by the local cops.

The donkey will be kept locked up until the owner arrives to resolve the issue, according to local media. In the meantime, it is being visited by children in the area

At the moment, the police have been unable to track down its owner who is expected to pay a fine as well as compensate the property owners for the damage caused.

On August 19 this year, a municipal officer of the community of San Sebastian Rio Dulce in Oaxaca jailed another donkey to prevent its elderly owners from transporting wood for commercial sale.

The animal’s owners, 88-year-old Pascual Cruz and 86-year-old Alejandra Mejia, argued that they needed the donkey to carry wood for their own use.
