Doorstep camera shows the moment a cruel thief takes off with children’s Christmas presents

A doorstep camera has captured the moment a family’s Christmas presents were stolen by a thief in broad daylight.

Footage shows a woman in a white t-shirt, black pants, dark sunglasses and a cap casually walking to the family’s front door in Mulgrave, south-east Melbourne, on Monday afternoon.

She is seen picking up two large boxes of toys that were resting on the doorstep and intended for the children who live there.

The presents included hundreds of dollars worth of items including costumes.

The home’s resident Michelle said the family had ordered the gifts ahead of time so her children could open them up on Christmas day.

‘We’re two very busy people at home and we don’t have the time or energy to get to the shops,’ she told 7 News.

Michelle urged the thief to think about what she did and how her actions  affect others.

‘If we were a family who was really struggling, some people would be going without. It’s not a nice thing,’ she said.

The theft is now being investigated by Victoria Police.

Daily Mail Australia contacted Victoria Police for comment.

According to comparison site Finder, one in five Aussies have reported having a delivery stolen over the past year.

Customers have been urged to use a parcel container to keep their deliveries safe and to ensure they have their ID verified by the company who are delivering their items.

It is also advised to keep a track of deliveries online.
