Borussia Dortmund ‘will rival Manchester United for Sebastian Haller’ with the Germans looking for an Erling Haaland replacement – in what could be an early blow for Erik ten Hag and his massive Red Devils rebuild
- Striker Erling Haaland is expected to leave Manchester City in the summer
- Sebastian Haller could be targeted to fill the void at Borussia Dortmund
- Erik ten Hag, the incoming Man United boss, has also been linked with a move
Erik ten Hag hasn’t officially taken over as Manchester United manager yet but he could still be dealt an early blow in the transfer market.
Earlier this week, it was reported United are lining up the Ajax striker Sebastian Haller – who notoriously flopped at West Ham – as one of Ten Hag’s first signings when he becomes the new manager at Old Trafford.
But now The Sun report that Borussia Dortmund are also sizing up a move for the man who has scored 31 goals in 37 games for the Dutch giants this season.

Haaland is expected to complete a move to Manchester City worth £500,000-a-week
Ten Hag was confirmed as the new United manager last week
Dortmund will almost certainly be looking for a replacement for Erling Haaland this summer. The most coveted talent in Europe alongside Kylian Mbappe is closing in on a mega-money move to Manchester City and could sign a deal worth a staggering £500,000-a-week.
Haaland is expected to leave Dortmund for £64million – the release clause in his contract – while Haller is expected to command a £35m asking price.
The German club have a reputation for being astute movers in the transfer window and with Haaland long expected to leave Dortmund this summer, they will have long planned for a replacement.
Haller, 27, scored 14 goals in 54 games for West Ham between 2019 and 2021 after a £45m move from Eintracht Frankfurt. Ajax signed him for £22m. Bayern Munich have also been credited with interest in signing him this summer amid uncertainty over Robert Lewandowski’s plans.
Ten Hag was confirmed as United’s new manager last week and faces a huge rebuilding job at Old Trafford.
United are sixth in the Premier League and have won once in their last six games in all competitions – a run of form that includes humbling defeats against rivals Liverpool and Arsenal.
Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard could front a string of departures at United this summer
The Red Devils are all but out of the race to qualify for next season’s Champions League
Interim manager Ralf Rangnick has all but conceded defeat in the race to finish in the top four and there is a large number of players set to leave in the summer when their contracts expire.
They include the likes of Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata.
United are back in action on Thursday night but the fixture list doesn’t get any easier for them – they host Chelsea at Old Trafford.
