Dozens of British schoolchildren miraculously survive after lorry driver ‘distracted by sat nav’ smashes into their double-decker ski trip bus after veering into on-coming traffic in Germany

Dozens of British students miraculously survived a horror collision after a lorry driver ‘distracted by his sat nav’ crashed into their double decker bus on a German road.

The group of around 60 students from Ysgol Llanhari, in Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales, were travelling in southern Germany while heading to a ski resort in Austria.

In an Instagram story posted by the school, they revealed that no schoolchildren were injured in the collision.

It also added the pupils, reportedly between the ages of 14 and 17, were awaiting transport to take them on to Austria to continue their ski holiday.

Coach company Davey Travel Ltd said the crash took place on the B10 – a 190-mile federal highway between the state of Saarland and north-western Bavaria – near the Landau-Nord exit.

The double-decker bus was smashed in the accident, but miraculously no students were left injured

‘Since the bus was still partially operational, it was able to leave the B10 on its own,’ said the police.

The B10 was closed in both directions until 9am, and reports have stated the truck had to be towed away.

The school has reportedly been in touch with parents and thanked emergency services in Germany.

They wrote on Instagram: ‘Everyone is fine – a huge thank you to the German emergency services. The resilience of our pupils is evident today’.

According to the Landau police, the lorry loaded with tar was driving on the B10 towards Pirmasens before it hit the oncoming double-decker bus carrying the group of students at around 4:50am.

The truck driver was allegedly distracted by his navigation system, according to the Landau police.

In images of the horror crash, shards of glass can be seen smashed out of the left side of the bus.

The rubble stretched for more than 150metres, according to Landau police.

Reports have stated that only the 53-year-old driver was left slightly injured as a result of the broken glass..
