An Al-Ittihad player was seemingly whipped by a furious supporter in disgraceful scenes after the Saudi Super Cup final on Thursday night.
Moroccan striker Abderrazak Hamdallah was lashed twice after confronting the unnamed individual and throwing water in their direction.
Tensions then boiled over as several of Hamdallah’s team-mates rushed over.
Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante both started for Al-Ittihad but were helpless to prevent the Saudi Pro League side from slumping to a 4-1 defeat by Al-Hilal.
Hamdallah appeared to bear the brunt of frustration from the stands despite scoring the equaliser on 21 minutes and was later targeted by one irate spectator.
An Al-Hilal player was whipped by a furious supporter after his side’s Saudi Super Cup defeat
Striker Abderrazak Hamdallah was lashed twice by the culprit after dousing him with water
As the forward made his way off the pitch, he appeared to hear the abuse being hurled his way and reacted by dousing the supporter in water from his bottle.
Incredibly, the supporter then pulled out a whip before hitting out at Hamdallah. Players and officials stepped in to break up the fracas and take the player to safety.
The whip brandisher was quickly shepherded away by another fan before two members of stadium security moved in and guided him further away.
Forward Malcom scored twice as Al-Hilal eased to victory to clinch the trophy in Abu Dhabi, with Jorge Jesus’ team also top of the league in their bid to win the quadruple.
Al-Hilal took an early lead after Malcom slotted home following a sharp one-two with Salah Al-Shehri, only for Hamdallah to equalise from a rebound shortly after.
Hamdallah reacted furiously after the incident and several team-mates raced over to the scene
But Salem Al-Dawsari struck from the edge of the area as Al-Hilal moved back ahead, before Malcom notched his brace and Nasser Al-Dawsari completed the scoring.
