Dramatic moment cop breaks the window of a burning car to pull the driver to safety after a crash

The dramatic moment a police officer breaks the window of a burning car before pulling the driver to safety after a single car crash has been caught on his body cam.  

Video of the rescue was posted by the Elk Grove Police Department on social media.

It shows the moment Elk Grove police officer Jarred Houston stops his patrol car after seeing a car with its engine on fire on the side of the road on February 11.

He then rushes over to the car, shining his flashlight inside the window. As officer Houston is heard asking whether anyone is in the car, the male driver calls out: ‘I cannot get out, sir’.

The engine compartment is on fire as the officer rushes over to assist the driver who is still inside

The officer asks, ‘are you on the passenger’s side?’ He then tells the man ‘I got you.’ 

After trying all the doors with no success, the cop makes the decision to break the window. 

The officer then warns him to ‘lean back from the window.’ 

He proceeds to smash in the glass, which shatters. After getting him to safety, the man was transported to a local hospital.

His injuries were said to be non-life threatening.

The cause of the collision is under investigation.
