Drew Barrymore gets surprise proposal from her former babysitter Pauly Shore on talk show as comedian presents her with ring and insists it’s ‘not about sex’

Drew Barrymore got quite the surprise on her talk show when she was asked for her hand in marriage by her former babysitter, Pauly Shore.

Shore, 55, who has been longtime friends with Drew – got down on one knee to propose to the Hollywood icon during Friday’s episode of her eponymous series. 

The big reveal came after the pair discussed Pauly’s podcast, mourned the loss of Matthew Perry and reminisced about his late famous mother Mitzi Shore, who co-founded the Comedy Store in Los Angeles.

‘What Drew doesn’t know is that my mother was not happy when you married Tom Green,’ Pauly said, referring to Drew’s yearlong marriage that ended in 2002.  ‘And she said to me, she goes, “Pauly, Drew should marry you”.

‘And that’s why I came here tonight, on this glorious night, to present you with a ring,’ he continued, before pulling out a gigantic sparkler.

‘Are you proposing, Pauly?’ Drew asked with a huge smile, as Pauly replied, ‘I duly wed’.

Drew began to giggle as she took a good look at her bejeweled finger and said, ‘An amazing engagement ring, by the way’.

She showed it off to the audience before telling them, ‘You’re gonna have to stay tuned to find out my answer.’

‘This has been a wild ride. Pauly Shore I love you so much,’ she said, closing out the show. 

She told the audience to ‘come back tomorrow’ to see how the proposal ended. 

Elsewhere in the interview, Pauly and Drew discussed why the Encino Man star was not in a relationship at the moment. 

‘It’s very, very difficult for me to have a girlfriend because it’s hard for me to let love in, because I’m scared to get hurt,’ Pauly explained.

When Drew asked Pauly what he was afraid of, he said, ‘Well, I want to do it with the right person. That’s the most important thing.
