Drew Barrymore rips out her hair extensions live on TV as she reveals perimenopause symptom

Drew Barrymore defiantly removed her hair extensions on her ABC talk show during a candid conversation with Pamela Anderson about embracing natural beauty.

In a preview clip ahead of Tuesday’s episode, the presenter, 49, was midway through a discussion with the former Playboy model, 57, when she stopped herself and unclipped the accessory from her scalp.

After she took out the hair piece and flung it across the studio, Drew shared that she’d started wearing it due to the symptoms of perimenopause.

‘Sorry, if we’re really going to be honest here,’ Drew said as she started tugging at her head, interrupting Pamela as she admitted she would wear make-up to become a character.

The host then began to undo the clip-ins, prompting fellow guest Valerie Bertinelli to exclaim, ‘I love you so much.’

‘Oh my gosh, this is wonderful,’ Pamela added. ‘Yeah right. Let go. You don’t need that.’

Drew then explained: ‘So, another really awesome symptom of perimenopause is you start to lose your hair.’

‘You have a lot of hair, your hair is beautiful,’ Pamela observed, with Drew responding, ‘It’s good. It’s not bad.’

Valerie, 64, quipped: ‘You can have a full face of makeup, feel like the makeup is beautiful but if you’re having a bad hair day, it’s like, nah, not gonna happen.’

‘And if you are having a great hair day, you feel a lot more confident about wearing less makeup because you feel so good in your presentation that everything else sort of falls into place,’ Drew added.

Drew has been vocal about experiencing symptoms of perimenopause in recent months.

In February, she announced that she had become a brand ambassador for Dr. Kellyann’s perimenopause and menopause daily supplement.

‘Yup, the dreaded ‘M word’ that we should not feel ashamed of because EVERY women is going to go through menopause!’ Drew captioned her post.

‘The hormonal weight gain, hot flashes, sleepless nights, fatigue, the mood swings. You’re not alone and you don’t have to feel powerless once your body begins to transition.’

In a playful recording, the mother-of-two stood on a rooftop wearing a mustard yellow coat as she teased, ‘I just had to come out here and get something off my chest.’

‘I’m not afraid of perimenopause anymore,’ she then shouted animatedly.

In Tuesday’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, Drew, her guests and her entire studio audience went make-up free for the entire episode in honor of bare is beautiful maven Pamela.

The ET star was also joined by Gillian Anderson and Gayle King for a no-holds barred conversation about aging.

Elsewhere in her discussion with Pamela, the media personality explained what led her to make-up free journey.

‘Well, it was at Paris Fashion Week and I decided I was just going to a fashion show, I didn’t need to compete with anybody,’ Pamela shared.

‘Like, why am I wasting three hours in a makeup chair when I have these beautiful Vivienne Westwood clothes on and like, I didn’t realize anyone would even notice.

‘So I thought so then when people started coming up to me and talking about it, I thought, well, this is a great message to really peel it back and find out who I was again.

‘I wanted to remember who I was. I found I played characters my whole life. I always wanted to be, you know I was painfully shy as a kid and even doing Playboy, for instance, was a huge leap of faith for me.

‘It just, you know, I was physically sick doing it, but I didn’t want to be shy anymore. And I just thought, well, this is what my fantasy of what a model is or a playmate is, or a rock star wife is or what anything is.’

Pamela said that she had been playing characters along the way and it hit her in recent years that she had lost sight of who she was.

‘That’s when I went home into my garden and started planting things and getting into nature and going back to the trees that knew me since birth.

‘I bought my grandmother’s property and renovated it and I just started taking it all back and then started peeking out without makeup.

‘And then I started realizing, “Oh, I feel great as me,” and I don’t want people to think of me as the other, all those cartoon characters I kind of created for protection, that’s what I think I did it for, you know, looking back, but this is the best time in my life.

‘I feel so empowered and so free and so excited about life again.’
