The incident occurred early on Monday morning on Parramatta Road.

The man collided with the power pole at such a speed his Holden ute was flipped upside-down.

Several cars stopped to rush to the aid of the man and help free him from the vehicle.

Two city-bound lanes were closed as debris from the smashed car covered the road.

There were also damaged portions of the ute across the footpath, while firefighters attended the scene to remove leaked oil and petrol.

He was transported to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital to be treated.
