Drug kingpin who admitted to drug trafficking said he stashed three pipe bombs in the bush

A former tyre fitter turned drug kingpin has admitted to selling ice and ecstasy pills to finance his flashy Gold Coast lifestyle, a court heard.

Matthew Delander, 25, pleaded guilty in a Queensland court on Thursday to 30 charges, including trafficking ice and ecstasy, firearms offences and possession of counterfeit money.

Police have claimed Delander’s drug trafficking paid for prostitution, his lavish Gold Coast stays at the Sheraton and overseas holidays with his ex-girlfriend model Kylie Gould, The Courier Mail reports.

The drug kingpin admitted to police that he also paid $20,000 to a criminal syndicate for $50,000 worth of counterfeit money.

Leading up to his conviction, Delander worked with police to unveil stashes of explosives and bomb-making equipment hidden in bushland.

The explosive stash included three pipe bombs, 39 electronic detonators and 40kg of ammonium nitrate.

Crown prosecutor Danny Boyle told the court Delander was not charged over the explosives and bombs.

Justice Peter Davis said: ‘There is a huge public benefit of the removal of these bombs from the public domain.’

Delander has been sentenced to nine years in prison and is eligible for parole in October 2020.

Delander’s ex girlfriend Kylie Jean Gould pleaded guilty to four charges including the trafficking of ice and ecstasy in the Supreme Court in Brisbane on March 29.
