The arrest comes after two women allegedly found prescription medication inside their McDonald’s sundaes.

One of the women told the New Zealand Herald that her sister noticed ‘an extremely funny taste’ halfway through eating her sundae.

‘We ate them at home, and we all found traces and whole pills of prescription medicine. My sister ingested one. I found one in my mouth and spat it out,’ the woman said on social media.

The post also said they went straight to the hospital where staff told them the pills were someone’s medication, however, were not a high enough dose to do any harm and suggested going to the police.

According to the woman the hospital could not identify the pills but police are currently testing them.

In a statement, McDonald’s said they the investigation cleared all of its staff of any wrongdoing.

‘It’s disappointing that somebody would make an allegation of this nature, and that the subsequent publicity on news and social media unfairly damaged our reputation, took up a significant amount of time for our people, and resulted in a loss of sales.’
