‘Drunk and texting’ driver, 50, who mowed down a group of pedestrians in her car

A girl is fighting for her life after a woman allegedly crashed her car into a family of four while under the influence of alcohol and using her mobile phone.

Two people are in a critical condition in hospital after the crash on Hezlett Road in Kellyville in Sydney’s northwest about 9.30pm on Sunday.

Lisa Mottram, 50, was allegedly at more than twice the legal blood alcohol limit and using her mobile phone during the crash that badly injured four pedestrians.

She has been charged with seven crimes, including dangerous driving, mid-range drink driving, and misusing a mobile phone. 

She allegedly had a blood alcohol level of 0.113.

CCTV footage showed a white SUV swing around a corner and into a family after a failed attempt to stop the car.

The girl was rushed to the Westmead Children’s Hospital after being placed in an induced coma at the scene of the accident, according to The Daily Telegraph.

Police said the four-year-old girl suffered head and internal injuries in the crash and was still in a critical condition.

Her aunt, 55, suffered internal and spinal injuries and was rushed to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where her condition was unknown on Monday morning.

The girl’s mother, 44, was in a serious condition at Westmead Hospital with facial injuries, a broken arm and a pelvic fracture.

The 45-year-old father was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Inspector Kate Orr from the crash investigation unit said the family were on holiday from Hong Kong. 

‘No one should get behind the wheel with any alcohol to that extent. I would suggest no alcohol. But on top of that to be using your mobile phone is extremely dangerous,’ she said.

Police urged witnesses or anyone who my have dashcam footage of the crash or events leading up to it to come forward.

The driver was granted conditional police bail and will face Parramatta Local Court on October 10.
