A drunk driving student knocked out power to a high school and two college campuses by crashing into an electrical pole.
The 20-year-old man struck a kerb outside Georgia Piedmont Technical College at around 8am on Monday before ploughing into the pole, which snapped in half.
The driver, from Clarkston High School, was trapped in the car by the electrical wires and had to be removed by rescue workers.
College student Remi Oroyo said it was a ‘miracle’ rescue workers were able to break the glass of the flipped car and pull out the driver
The roadway was shut down for hours as crews worked to clear the scene and get the driver out safely.
Clarkston was closed for about two hours as engineers worked to restore power, reported WSB-TV.
Witnesses described the driver ‘dodging traffic’ before the crash, although he was not being chased by police.
College student Remi Oroyo said it was a ‘miracle’ rescue workers were able to break the glass and pull out the driver.
The male driver, who escaped with scratches, has not been named and no charges against him have been released.
