Tennessee police detained a pilot on public intoxication charges after he caused a scramble at a Nashville bar when he tipped servers $22,000.

Friends of Joel Boyers, 39, a pilot and flight instructor at a Tennessee flight school, first called police saying that they had received weird texts from the Bellevue man admitting to taking drugs that ‘increased his intelligence.’

He also allegedly admitted to friends that he had been drinking and was carrying his gun at the same time.

Police found Boyers at the JW Marriot hotel on Eighth Avenue South. He admitted to drinking and smoking pot while carrying his firearm, the Tennessean reports.

Staff at the hotel told authorities that the man was causing a ruckus while making several high dollar tips – which amounted to $22,000. They also claimed that waitresses were competing to serve him and the spectacle created a disruption for bar service.

Boyers did give authorities his weapon, which was located in his front right pants pocket.

Responding officers said that the man’s eyes appeared to be bloodshot and they also watery.

Boyers was also charged with possession of a firearm while intoxicated.

He was booked into the Davidson County jail but posted bond after a couple of hours. The man is expected to appear in court next month.

The arrest affidavit did indicate that Boyers allegedly ‘made bizarre statements about giving away his child on Facebook.’

But the father took to his own social media account to dispel the ‘rumors’ and asserted that he was looking for a babysitter so that he could celebrate his birthday.

‘I messaged a few friends on Facebook to find a babysitter for my daughter Ella, (it was my birthday and I knew I would be drinking) and some person misunderstood and accused me of trying to “get rid of my daughter on Facebook,”‘ he said in the post.

‘This rumor went out of control, causing someone to call the police, which questioned me at my hotel (where I had been celebrating) and then the cops released me right away.

‘I have a carry permit so I had my firearm in my room.’
